Our Story

We truly believe that through personalized treatment, community involvement and a desire to succeed, recovery from mental illness IS possible. Founded by Baltimore native Sylvan C. Herman and opened in 2011, ClearView Communities is a non-profit organization that has quickly built a reputation as a premier mental health program for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Our intimate size and high staff-to-resident ratio allow us to offer a uniquely individualized approach to care. Our well-appointed residences are warm, inviting homes that create a comfortable, fostering environment for healing, growth and preparation for real life.

Our Location Is a Key to Success

Frederick, Maryland, is an idyllic location for psychiatric rehabilitation. Finding one’s way in the community is a vital key to recovery, and Frederick provides the perfect combination of charm and proximity to coordinated care. Designated a Great American Main Street, this historic downtown is home to all the businesses and attractions of bigger cities, but with a distinct hometown atmosphere where ClearView residents can comfortably transition into real life situations. Frederick offers an extraordinary sense of community and unparalleled opportunities.

In the Heart of the Mid-Atlantic

Named one of the country’s “Greatest Neighborhoods” by Forbes magazine in 2010, Frederick is centrally located, less than an hour from both Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and just 30 minutes from Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Scenic drives lead to numerous Civil War heritage sites as well as parks, recreation and year-round outdoor activities. The area is a thriving center for the arts, museums, historical sites, sports venues and entertainment.
