The SC Herman Foundation made a generous donation to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN to support the development and construction of the John E. Herman Home and Treatment Center at the Mayo Clinic. John Herman was the late son of Sylvan Herman and suffered for years with schizophrenia. Mr. Herman established the SC Herman Foundation and developed ClearView Communities in Frederick, MD in response to John’s illness and his deeply held belief that people with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses given the proper care and opportunities in the community can lead productive lives. Clearview is a residential treatment program for adults with mental illness and has been successfully treating individuals for over 5 years using a psycho-social rehabilitation and community-integration model. The new program at Mayo will be based on the principles and values of the Clearview model.
